The Cinema Show at Modena Civic Gallery

The story of cinema disclosed through photography. On Saturday 7 February at 6pm in Palazzo Santa Margherita, the Modena Civic Gallery will open The Cinema Show, a display of works from the Photography Collection of the Modena museum. The selection of images pays tribute to the “seventh art” and its protagonists, gathering the works of 40 photographers (most of them have entirely dedicated their talent to the cinema, others have produced occasional portraits of some Hollywood celebrities) and embracing a century of cinema:from the experimental short film Thaïs by Anton Giulio Bragaglia (1917), right up to Woody Allen and Bill Murray, including the Italian Nanni Moretti and Paolo Sorrentino. Among the stars and divas captured while acting, posing for studio portraits or in paparazzi shots taken during breaks in shooting, there are Marlene Dietrich and Carroll Baker, Totò and Roberto Benigni; even Marilyn Monroe, Anna Magnani and Audrey Hepburn have been   ‘paparazzied’ in exceptional images celebrating their myth. The Cinema Showis part of a project undertaken in 2011, aimed at displaying the heritage of the Modena Civic Gallery , and will remain on show in the Main Hall of Palazzo Santa Margherita until 7 June 2015.
