ORNELLAIA: LIQUID GOLD
Quality Italian wines are getting more and more appreciated on a worldwide level, to the degree that many have been performing much better than their French counterparts in some of the most prestigious international auctions.Ornellaia in particular seems to be a more viable investment than some traditional goods such as gold or oil, according to a research commissioned by Ornellaia and carried out by Sotheby’s and Liv-Ex (the international wine stock exchange in London, playing ground of the world’s top wine collectors) which was fully disclosed during a Milan conference in March.
According to Liv-Ex, Ornellaia ranks high on the world’s quality wines list and its steady profit growth (since 2007 average quotations have doubled) makes it a safe bet as it’s part of a superb range of Italian wines (which includes Masseto, Sassicaia, Solaia and Tignanello) that enabled Italy’s comeback on the market to the detriment of French brands.
Buying a bottle of rosso di Bolgheri is now an investment that can guarantee a flow of steady profits through time, as confirmed by the most important stock indexes such as S&P 500 and FTSE 100.
“The sale of Ornellaia at Sotheby’s New York in 2013 was 100% sold and represented the most important sale of Italian wine sourced directly from a single estate”, explained Stephen Mould, head of Sotheby’s European wine department. “Ornellaia topped our Wine ranking as the leading Italian wine estate sold at Sotheby’s in 2013.”
