La Divina Bellezza, the Duomo lights up to discover Siena
The history of Siena cathedral projected on its Facciatone, during summer nights. From July 24 to September 2015, the municipality of Siena and Opera della Metropolitana of Siena, in collaboration with Filmmaster Events and Opera Gruppo Civita will launch a new cultural project whose aim is to increase the artistic value of Siena Cathedral: La Divina Bellezza – Discovering Siena, a new cultural initiative which appraises the Siena’s Duomo complex, between culture, history and technology. It’s a video mapping in 3D, a state-of-art technology that will light up the 800 square meter of the main façade of the cathedral.
Each image weights 6 million mega pixel and it is the first history telling visual project in Italy. It will be a journey through time and emotions, myth and beauty, a visual experience divided into 5 parts. It will retrace the history of such a unique place and also allow the visitors to know the history of the Cathedral and the Old Cathedral, together with the whole city, its places, its people, its past. The event will be a great artistic show whose purpose is to convey values, messages and historical reconstructions. It represents a global trend: make the monument live and tell their own history, show their own identity with a 3D visual poetry and tales.
The history and traditions of Siena, with its historic center which have been on Unesco’s World Heritage List since 1995, will be projected on one of its symbolic monument, the Duomo. La Divina Bellezza – Discovering Siena starts with the Palio, maximum cultural expression of the city, and goes on exploring the period between Middle age and Renaissance. The show of lights and images will end with an immersive finale, tearing down all architectonic barriers. The show has been written and masterminded by Alfredo Accatino, one of the most famous Italian creative talents. He signed several international events such as Turin 2006 Olympic and Paralympic ceremonies, the spectacular show for the launch of Fiat 500, and the Mediterranean Games ceremonies. This year he worked on the Expo 2015 Opening Ceremony.
