U-BOAT, FROM THE NAVY TO TUNGSTEN CARBIDE

The adventure is not finished yet for U-BOAT, a timepiece with origins as tumultuous as the invasion of Normandy.

The first project/patent was originally developed during WW2: an uncompromising watch ready for anything.  It was created by master craftman Ivo Fontana, who in 1942 handed to the Italian navy the blueprint of the first ever U-BOAT watch, and today his nephew Italo Fontana is the person in charge of the production of this iconic range, whose fans include actor Arnold Schwarzenegger (the ultimate mercenaryboth in front and behind the movie camera).

Italo Fontana’s perpetual quest has pushed him to revisit the U-BOAT using tungsten carbide – the world’s toughest natural metal – in its Classico Chrono model.

You can take a look at the Classico Chronoin our gallery. The watch of big manoeuvrings, today even more resistant, is available in two different sizes: 53mm or 45mm diameter.
