BORN IN FLORENCE

Salvatore Ferragamo, Gucci, Emilio Pucci and Ermanno Scervino. What they do have in common is the passion for their hometown, to which they have given a lot but also from which they have taken all: their blood line, their history but also their inspiration.

To celebrate the city of Florence in occasion of Pitti Uomo 86, the fashion designers have organised four different events where they will tell more about themselves and their relationship with their hometown.

Ferragamo has opened the doors of the superb Palazzo Spini-Feroni – located at the beginning of via Tornabuoni in the heart of the city’s luxury district – to launch ‘Equilibrium’, a tribute to walking but also “to barefoot dancing, to slowly advancing on a tightrope, to climbing mountains, to march on command, to casually cruising around while deep in thoughts, to wondering around withtout a destination”.  And just like Salvatore dedicated his energies to the study of human foot and plantar arch anatomy, with the same spirit, this display of statements brought some light on the lives and experiences of important artists such as Canova and Degas, Rodin and Bourdelle, Matisse and Picasso, Lipchitz and Severini, Klee and Calder.

Scervino on the other hand chose a gala night in the surroundings of the beautiful forte Belvedere for his prestigious catwalk featuring a return to the origins revisited in a contemporary key, dominated by light colours such as whites, greys, creams, that combined with the dark background provided by the night, brightened up the show with discretion and elegance.

Diametrically opposite is the spirit and the methodology of Emilio Pucci, who introduced with a great deal of irony his ‘Monumental Pucci’ installation where he ‘dressed’ piazza San Giovanni’s baptistery with graphics that take inspiration from a 1957 partial view of piazza dell Marchese Emilio Pucci. A limited-edition foulard capturing this unique experience will soon be available for purchase.

Last but not least, Gucci decided to combine the useful with the pleasurable in the newly-renovated Richard Ginori palace by paying tribute to the 90 years of successful relationships with the city and by celebrating with installations, cocktails and prestigious events the 60th anniversary of Florence’s fashion district in the city centre.
