The show, dedicated to <strong>Piero di Cosimo<\/strong> <em>\u201cEccentric painter <\/em><\/span><em><span lang=\"EN-US\">from the Renaissance to the Modern Manner\u201d,<\/span><\/em><span lang=\"EN-US\"> from June 23 to September 27 at the <strong>Uffizi Gallery<\/strong>,<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"> offers a not-to-be-missed opportunity to discover one of the most interesting Renaissance master, <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">though less well-known than <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">his <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">contemporaries. <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">His talent is comparable to that of Filippino Lippi or Fra\u2019 Bartolomeo, while his attention to nature is the same as Leonardo da Vinci.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The National Gallery in Washington \u2013 one of the United States\u2019 most important museums, with collections that include unquestioned masterpieces by such artists as Leonardo da Vinci and Vermeer \u2013 also planned a monographic exhibition devoted to <strong>Piero di Cosimo<\/strong>.<\/span><span class=\"apple-converted-space\"><span style=\"color: #878787;\" lang=\"EN-US\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">The American event closed on 3 May. <strong><span style=\"border: 1pt none windowtext; padding: 0cm;\">The two exhibitions are distinct events rather than two versions of a single exhibition<\/span><\/strong>. Even though some thirty or so pictures by <strong>Piero di Cosimo<\/strong> feature in both the National Gallery and the Uffizi exhibitions,<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><strong><span style=\"border: 1pt none windowtext; padding: 0cm;\">they are in fact based on two different projects, with a narrower and more strictly monographical approach being adopted in Washington, and a broader approach \u2013 comprising roughly 100 works \u2013characterizing the Uffizi event, which also includes drawings by Piero di Cosimo<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span>as well as paintings and drawings by several of his contemporaries such as Filippino Lippi, Fra\u2019 Bartolomeo and Lorenzo di Credi<strong><span style=\"border: 1pt none windowtext; padding: 0cm;\">.<\/span><\/strong>One of the most important work present only in the Uffizi exhibition is a panel depicting the<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><em><span style=\"border: 1pt none windowtext; padding: 0cm;\">Death of a Nymph<\/span><\/em><span class=\"apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span>from the National Gallery in London, a moving masterpiece whose subject matter is still shrouded in mystery and which has been stimulating other artists\u2019 imagination since the 19th century.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: medium;\"><strong><span style=\"border: 1pt none windowtext; padding: 0cm;\" lang=\"EN-US\">The Uffizi exhibition tracks Piero di Cosimo\u2019s artistic career<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"apple-converted-space\"><span style=\"border: 1pt none windowtext; padding: 0cm;\" lang=\"EN-US\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">from his early days as an apprentice in the workshop of Cosimo Rosselli, the master responsible for the name with which he was to become known, given that his real name was Piero di Lorenzo.<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: medium;\" lang=\"EN-US\"> <span style=\"background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial;\">But tracking Piero di Cosimo\u2019s work also means plunging into the history of Florence in the Renaissance, from the age of Lorenzo the Magnificent, when Piero produced works of such outstanding quality as the<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><em><span style=\"border: 1pt none windowtext; padding: 0cm;\">Visitation<\/span><\/em><span class=\"apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span>(<strong><span style=\"border: 1pt none windowtext; padding: 0cm;\">Washington, National Gallery<\/span><\/strong>), or the cycle with<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><em><span style=\"border: 1pt none windowtext; padding: 0cm;\">The Early History of Man<\/span><\/em><span class=\"apple-converted-space\"><span style=\"border: 1pt none windowtext; padding: 0cm;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span>that he painted for the Del Pugliese family palazzo.&nbsp;<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span>Of this cycle, the Uffizi exhibition hosts two<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><em><span style=\"border: 1pt none windowtext; padding: 0cm;\">Hunting<\/span><\/em><span class=\"apple-converted-space\"><em>&nbsp;<\/em><\/span>scenes from the<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><strong><span style=\"border: 1pt none windowtext; padding: 0cm;\">Metropolitan Museum in New York<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"apple-converted-space\"><span style=\"border: 1pt none windowtext; padding: 0cm;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span>and the atmospheric view of a building under construction from the<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><strong><span style=\"border: 1pt none windowtext; padding: 0cm;\">museum of Sarasota<\/span><\/strong>.<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">A section is also dedicated to portraits \u2013 among the<span style=\"background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial;\"> most superlative of the entire Florentine Renaissance<\/span> \u2013 together with the <span style=\"background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial;\">panel depicting<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><em><span style=\"border: 1pt none windowtext; padding: 0cm;\">Perseus Liberating Andromeda,<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/span><span class=\"apple-converted-space\"><span style=\"color: #878787;\" lang=\"EN-US\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><span style=\"background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial;\" lang=\"EN-US\">dating back to the second decade of the 16th century.&nbsp;<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The catalogue, published by Giunti Editore, is edited by Serena Padovani, Elena Capretti<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">, <\/span>Anna Forlani Tempesti and Daniela Parenti. The exhibition moves along a path showcasing over 100 works, after which the eccentric unconventional personality of <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">Piero di Cosimo becomes better known; an artists who, according to his main biographer Giorgio Vasari, painted in solitude most of his works, leaving us an heritage of valuable works, worth to be known.&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: medium;\"><a style=\"line-height: 1.538em;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.unannoadarte.it\/pierodicosimo\/main\/\" target=\"_blank\">www.unannoadarte.it\/pierodicosimo\/main\/<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: medium;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.uffizi.org\" target=\"_blank\">www.uffizi.org<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An opportunity more than just an exhibition.
