For the seventh year in a row, St. Moritz and the Swiss region of Engadina are ready to host <\/span>St. Moritz Art Masters.<\/span>Between August 22 and 31, 2014<\/span>, contemporary art\u2019s top exponents will showcase their work in thirty different locations.<\/p>\n

St. Moritz Art Masters<\/span>, created by Monty Shadow<\/span> and developed by curator Reiner Opoku<\/span>, is where contemporary art\u2019s most innovative trends flow into a single stage. In this edition, the focus will be on India<\/span> \u2013 a history-rich country, now more than ever keen to open its doors to a promising future \u2013 which will make this event the perfect occasion to learn more about the country\u2019s current art trends, from classic modernism to site-specific projects, through the showcase of internationally established young talents.<\/p>\n

India\u2019s vibrant art scene reflects a nation full of contrasts, which is currently undergoing a rapid change. The exhibition \u2018India: Maximum City\u2019 <\/span>held in Zuoz at the Chesa Planta, seems to be a clear testimony to this. With Birgid Uccia in the role of curator, the show gathers the artwork of nine emerging talents: Gigi Scaria, Hema Upadhyay, Manish Nai, Mithu Sen, Pablo Bartholomew, Pratus Dash, Ranbir Kaleka, Reena Saini Kallat<\/span>and Sooni Tarraporevala<\/span> – whose creations mirror the chaotic dynamics and uncontrolled growth of Indian cities.<\/p>\n

The site-specific projects realised byShilpa Gupta <\/span>at the Hotel Castell in Zuoz, by Subodh Gupta<\/span> at St.Moritz\u2019s protestant church and by Nalini Malani<\/span> at the Engadin Museum in St.Moritz,  are interesting concepts that focus on the more trans-cultural aspects of society, exploring the effects tradition is having on modern life, but also challenging the country\u2019s most deeply rooted stereotypes.<\/p>\n

With the goal of merging local and international culture, St. Moritz Art Masters will introduce at St.Moritz gym an interesting installation by Italian-American artist Francesco Clemente<\/span>: a huge tent created in India which was conceived as \u2018cave art\u2019 or a \u2018mobile shrine\u2019 able to instantly propel the audience into a dimension of silence and contemplation.<\/p>\n

The exhibitions from the Bilderberg Collection <\/span>at the Chesa Planta in Samedan will surely be as interesting, as it will be the show of British artist Billy Childish<\/span>who, at St. Moritz\u2019s French church, will introduce a piece of artwork especially created for this occasion: a series of extra-large paintings that take inspiration from the work of Giovanni Segantini, who had a long-lasting, deep relationship with the Engadina region.<\/p>\n
