Bellevue Syrene, best Italian hotel in the world

First place in Italy and third at a worldwide level for the Bellevue Syrene of Sorrento hotel in the Tripadvisor 14th edition of Travelers’ Choice Hotel Awards.  The recognition from the famous portal is undoubtedly a prestigious one for this Relais & Châteaux Hotel, considering its third position among the 7,000 structures recognized worldwide, divided by 97 countries and sorted from 8 different geographic areas.  To win the top rankings, quality of service and excellent price/quality ratio must be among the best.

The Bellevue Syrene, in the Amalfi Coast, reached this top ranking thanks to the enthusiastic reviews from its international customers, spinning the structure up to the top 10 best worldwide hotels, with the first position at European level. Two first-rate Asian hotels entered in the competition, with a first place awarded to the Hotel Umaid Bhawan Palace Jodhpur – India – and second-place assigned to the Shinta Mani Resort, in Cambodia.

The Amalfi Coast beauty is incomparable.  The Bellevue Syrene terrace offers to its guests a thrilling view of the Gulf of Naples, with Mount Vesuvius volcano standing on the background, as in a postcard.   Open in Sorrento most picturesque neighborhood since 1820, the Bellevue Syrene was erected upon the ruins of a Roman Villa, built at the time of the Roman Empire greatest expansion, the 2nd century BC.

Recuperated in 1750 by the Mastrobuono Counts, who used the property as a vacation home, the estate became a small hotel in 1820.  Nowadays it is a unique space out of time, in which traces of the ancient Empire are still visible to the eyes, with water lily-choked ponds and frescos that portrait most famous guests of the mansion. The Bellevue counts a total of 50 accommodations, each one unique, furnished in a mix of contemporary designs and authentic period pieces.  The large Vesuvio Suite – 75 square meters – offers a private lift for maximum guest privacy and allows exclusive access to a suggestive terrace which faces the Gulf of Naples.  The Roccia Suite recreates the ancient Roman atmosphere with a huge heated hydro-massage pool and a romantic balcony with sea view. For the sun and air lovers, the Lord Astor suite includes a whirlpool bath for two and open up on a 30 square meter terrace to the guests.

For this hotel restaurant, the cuisine is in the capable hands of chef Ivan Ruocco, who utilizes first quality prime ingredients from the Sorrentine Peninsula in creating his dishes. Swimmers can reach the sea from the ancient natural caves, which are still visitable.   A suggestive location for the lucky travelers who may spend a night or two in this luxury hotel, the Bellevue thoroughly deserved its third best worldwide award from Tripadvisor.
