BORN FREE AFRICA
Miuccia Prada, Diane Von Furstenberg,Tory Burch, Alberta Ferretti, Stella McCartney and Gisele Bündchen are some of the 22 women fashion designers and models that have come together with HIV charity Born Free to help reaching the ambitious goal the association has set for itself: to stamp out mother-child transmission of HIV in Africa once and for all.
A new limited-edition Born Freecollection has been created to support the cause and it will be available from April 23, 2014 on the website ShopBop.com. Composed of matching outfits and accessories – with each designer producing two pieces, one for the mother and one for the child – this remarkable collection uses the prints that Kenyan artist Wangechi Mutu was asked to create by Born Free as a connecting thread throughout featuring them in every item.
“Born Free is an idea that came from a place of deep respect for the delicate cycle of life. How incredible to be able to work with gifted designers, who as mothers recognize what the devastating loss of a child could mean and how easily that loss can be avoided” explained Wangechi Mutu.
The 100% of the collection’s sale profits will be donated to the Born Free charity, who has also scheduled a New York launch on May 11, 2014 (Mother’s Day).
The collection’s advertising campaign was shot by renowned photographer Patrick Demarchelier.
