Grand Hotel des Iles Borromées celebrates Expo with a dedicated menu. “Thursdays with Expo” is the occasion to enjoy a new food experience signed by executive chef Gianni Conti. Every Thursday, up to the 31st October 2015, the restaurant “Il Borromeo” is proposing a special daily menu dedicated to Expo. Italian tradition, flavor and beauty combined to create a real gourmet evening. It is a culinary itinerary “farm to folk” to taste the regional products, adding the creativity of Chef Gianni Conti. The ingredients are seasonal and combined with taste, for a fine dinner experience from both the culinary and aesthetic aspects. The setting is the unique Grand Hotel des Iles Borromées with Luxury Spa overlooking the Lake Maggiore, which is accepting bookings also from external guests in addition to the Spa des Iles guests.
Clients can choose what they prefer most according to their tastes. Indeed, there are special menu for food intolerances and celiacs: since2011,the restaurant of the Grand Hotel des Iles Borromées has been approved as safe by the AIC (Italian Celiac Association), that means they can serve totally gluten free food. Grand Hotel des Iles Borromées has a very fascinating history started with the unification of Italy. It was inaugurated in March 1863 and was immediately identified as the most prestigious place on the lake Maggiore. In 1906, the opening of the rail line: Traforo Ferroviario del Sempione, was the final push for the increase in tourism and Stresa was highly recognized in all European continent. In September 1918, the American writer Ernest Hemingway arrived in Stresa for the first time at the age of 19, recovering from a war wound.Reminiscing about the beauty of the place, Hemingway, set part of his novel “Farewell to arms” in the hotel. The name of the Grand Hotel des Iles Borromées then became known worldwide.
